The unusual weather pattern during harvest has led to a generally poor quality wheat crop whilst seeing yields return to around the UK norm. Millers will have to choose their raw materials carefully and may well have to increase the percentage of non-UK varieties used in the grist. That said, the quality of this year’s crop is not expected to pose significant problems with regard to meeting our customer’s requirements although the sharp rise in wheat premiums and accompanying decline in wheatfeed value is likely to lead to flour prices similar to those experienced last year.
