100% British Wheat

We’re proud to announce that all Rank Hovis branded grades of flour (Granary, Hovis Multiseed and Hovis Original Wheatgerm) are now milled from 100% British Wheat.

Traditionally, in order to produce the highest quality flours, we imported huge volumes of the world’s premium quality wheat. However through extensive trails over the last 5 years, we are now working collaboratively with over 600 British farmers to grow one of the world’s premium Red wheats, exclusively for Rank Hovis/Hovis.

The quality of this wheat has proven to be exceptionally successful through two of the wettest harvests in the last decade. We are therefore extremely confident our branded grades of flour will continue to be as great quality as ever.

100% British Wheat

The 100% British Wheat initiative is important news for the farming industry, from growing the wheat here in Great Britain we are saving a whopping £18 million, which we use to spend on imported wheats. All of this £18 million is now going to British Farmers.

Mr Hilary Benn MP, UK Secretary of State for Environment, Foods and Rural Affairs, recently visited our High Wycombe site as part of his regional visit to the South East. Mr Benn was given a tour of the bakery development plant to learn more about the change we’ve made to our wheat sourcing. He commented on how this is a great way to support British farmers and making buying British even easier for consumers. (Pictured below, from left to right, Tim Kelly – Hovis COO and Hilary Benn MP)

For all our branded grades we now have point-of-sale that features the 100% British Wheat logo, if you want to show your support then this can be ordered when placing your flour orders of by emailing rank.hovis@premierfoods.co.uk. Similarly, if you have any questions or require more information about the 100% British Wheat initiative please email the above address.
