Lifetime Achievement Award for Colin Lomax

At this year's Baking Industry Awards Rank Hovis' Colin Lomax was awarded the prestigious British Baker Special Award for Services to the Industry.

This special award recognises an individual's outstanding contribution to the baking industry and Colin is a most worthy winner. He is not only a credit to Rank Hovis, with his years of experience and wealth of knowledge, but he is also a well known and respected figurehead within the industry.

Colin, who comes from Bolton, left school at 15 and trained as a baker. He joined Rank Hovis as a technical rep 35 years ago and moved down south in the 1980's to take up the job of National Technical Sales Manager. Since then he has undertaken a number of different roles giving technical support to Rank Hovis customers.

Within the bakery industry Colin has worked passionately throughout his career. He has served as Chairman of The British Society of Baking and been President of the National Federation of Bakery Students. Colin told British Baker magazine 'I've worked for 46 years in this industry and I love it. I passionately believe we can get more young people involved in it'. Another project he is currently involved in is forming a new baking academy, which is aimed at better training for young people entering the industry.

At Rank Hovis, Colin has been instrumental in the Rank Hovis scholarship and the Hovis baking competitions and is clearly passionate about helping young people at the start of their baking careers.

On behalf of all of your colleague and associates, well done Colin!
